BOWOOD'S ACCESSIBILITY POLICY AND PROCEDURES
Accessibility
At Bowood, we prioritise diversity and inclusion, ensuring an accessible experience for all visitors while fostering a supportive work environment built on trust, collaboration, and respect.
Bowood is committed to ensuring that all visitors, including those with disabilities, can enjoy our beautiful estate. We offer discounted admission for visitors with disabilities and their carers or assistants. Working assistance dogs are also welcome — we kindly ask that they wear their recognisable harness or jacket.
Please be aware that Bowood is a Grade I listed park, with gravel paths around the house and grounds, which may present challenges for wheelchairs and pushchairs. We provide designated disabled parking, and wheelchairs are available to borrow, subject to availability. Visitors may also request to drive closer to Bowood's house for easier access. However, for safety reasons, we will hold your car keys until your departure.
Accessible toilets are located in the Treehouse Café and Bowood's house. Baby changing facilities can be found at the Treehouse Café, within the house, and near the adventure playground. Our team is always on hand to assist you or provide more information as needed.
Please note that our garden tours may pose challenges for those with mobility issues, particularly due to gravel paths in the Walled Gardens. While wheelchair users can access the upper terraces and the house via a ramp, the lower terraces and upper exhibition rooms are only accessible by stairs.
For those venturing to the cascade and lake, please note the steep incline. The Hermit Cave is in complete darkness, so we advise caution when exploring.
For further details, please download our map of the grounds, which includes walking distances.
Walled Garden Tour
The Walled Garden tour covers 1.2 miles and takes approximately 60 minutes, including a 10-minute walk back to the Treehouse Café. If time allows, your guide may offer an additional walk to the Cascades, Hermit Cave, and The Doric Temple, adding another 30 minutes.
Please note that seating within the walled garden is limited.
Woodland Garden
Open from mid-April to early June, the Woodland Garden features over two miles of pathways. However, wheelchair access to remote areas may be limited due to steep gradients and varied terrain. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available near the admission kiosk.
The Woodland Garden has a separate entrance from Bowood's House & Gardens, located just off the A342, Devizes Road, between Derry Hill and Sandy Lane villages. The postcode is SN11 9PG. Free parking is available adjacent to the admissions kiosk, where toilets are also located.
Our people
We are dedicated to fostering an accessible and inclusive environment that values diversity and respects individual needs. Our commitment includes providing support and resources to ensure all team members, regardless of ability, have equal opportunities to grow, develop, and reach their full potential.
