The year is 1922 and Miss Audrey Burns, a descendant of Robert Burns, is staying at Bowood with her mentor, Reverend McDougal. She had been ill, and she hopes that the air of the Wiltshire countryside might do her good. Indeed, after a month at Bowood Miss Burns' health is back in fine fettle. She has held several parties and is holding her family's traditional Burns Night Supper at the house this evening. Miss Burns' body is found in the woods, the night after the spectre of the infamous Tam O'Shanter is seen in the house. Who would have wanted to kill the charming Audrey?
